English football striker Jake Daniels, coming out

Thirty-two years after Justin Fashanu, the first openly gay footballer, came out, another active footballer is coming out publicly as gay

Jake Daniels (17) is a striker with the English club Blackpool and the first active professional footballer to be openly gay.

The first to publicly come out was the footballer Justin Fashanu in the 1990s in England, who committed suicide in London after a homophobic and denigrating campaign against him was orchestrated within English football.

A choice, this of Daniels, made to counter homophobia in sport, particularly football. A sport still considered for straight males.

”I have thought about it for a long time and I think this is the right time, I feel ready to tell my story. I want people to know who I really am. Lying all this time is not something I wanted to do. It was difficult, but now I have confidence in myself”.

Jake Daniels’ choice was supported by his own teammates and the Blackpool management: ‘‘We are incredibly proud that he has come to a point where he feels strong enough to express himself, on and off the field”.

Appreciation also came from the Premier League and the English Football Association itself.

Times are changing for the better, albeit very slowly.

The United States. A group of friends and an association that cultivates ethnic discrimination, racial superiority, and the fight against any diversity as essential pillars of its doctrine. These are the main elements of this multi-faceted novel, at times raw and hard, far from pity and useless turns of phrase, in which extreme fanaticism leads a father to desire the evil of his homosexual son, to the point of acting personally for the annihilation of this inclination. Yet “REDEMPTION DAYS” is not a novel that takes away space for hope, the same feeling that will take possession of the protagonist’s page after page, directing them to arrive very differently from the departure, a goal in which ideas change, the true virtues emerge, evil and perversions are finally removed, to achieve so, in different ways, their individual redemption.
