Hungarian F1 Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton 'challenges' Viktor Orban

Hungary led by Viktor Orbán has always condemned the LGBTQ+ community, passing anti-LGBTQ+ laws.

Once elected, Viktor Orbán made marriage equality (2012) and adoption for gay couples (2020) unconstitutional. Not only that, in fact, until 2020 there was in Hungary the right to legally change sex, now prohibited. Prohibition only to gay couples of the practice of surrogacy, while access to vitreous fertilization is allowed only to single women regardless of sexual orientation.

Not even 1 year ago the much-discussed Law banning LGBTQ+ propaganda in schools came into force–a ban on the dissemination of information and publications about homosexuality and sex change–and it is a revision of the Law approved several years ago by the Moscow Government

And so the British Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton — who is not new to these initiatives—got on the podium of the Hungarian F1 Grand Prix with a rainbow helmet. A clear signal of support for the Hungarian LGBTQ+ community.

Here’s what Hamilton said in 2021 about Orban: “Everyone deserves to have the freedom to be themselves, no matter who they love or how they identify. I urge the Hungarian people to vote in the next referendum to protect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, they need our support more than ever. Please show love for those around you because love will always win by sending you positivity.”
