The UK’s first national museum dedicated to LGBT+ history opened on May 5
Joseph Galliano is the director and creator of this groundbreaking museum dedicated to the British LGBT+ community. A project was born in 2077, when Galliano was working as an editor at ‘Gay Times‘ magazine and thought to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the partial decriminalization of homosexuality, with a work that compared the lives of four people. Two were born in 1967 and the other two after 1967.

A project that brought to light that the two boys born after 1967 were unaware that homosexuality had been illegal in the UK.
Today (May 5) Queer Britain will open, for the first time, its doors to the public after 4 years of gestation and hard work. And as Galliano says, there have been other attempts to open a museum dedicated to LGBT+ history, but none of them have been successful.

”I’d been kind of really quite depressed about realising that I was not like other boys,” Galliano recalled, talking about the importance of this museum.
”I had started down the road of self-harm, sort of completely understandable response to that kind of alienation, and I found two things.”

Queer Britain will be completely free and is located at 2 Granary Square, King’s Cross in London.
The days it is open to the public are Wednesday to Sunday, with the following hours: 12 pm to 6 pm.
