The US Navy paid tribute to several US civil rights leaders
The USNS Harvey Milk was launched in San Diego during a ceremony attended by US Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro and LGBT+ activist Harvey Milk’s grandson Stuart.
The ship dedicated to Harvey Milk is one of six new naval vessels dedicated to other personalities who have distinguished themselves in the fight for civil rights such as Earl Warren – former Chief Justice – and Robert Kennedy – former Secretary of Justice – who was assassinated in Los Angeles in 1968.

Activist Harvey Milk served during the Korean War – diving officer and lieutenant – in the submarine USS Kittiwake, unfortunately he was forced to leave active service in 1955. And all after two weeks of questioning by his superiors about his sexual orientation.
Some time later, Harvey Milk began the battle for LGBT+ civil rights and was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. The first openly gay politician. In 1978, he was killed by Dan White, a former superintendent with whom he had clashed several times.
