US transphobia: two laws against young transgender people blocked

The transphobic campaign in the United States suffered two major setbacks

In the state of Arizona, the Health and Human Services Committee decided to reject a bill called SB138. Fortunately, this bill – obviously proposed by a representative of the Republican Party – did not pass, thanks also to the massive campaign against this proposal, which, as reported by the Gay.it website, saw young trans people and their families get involved.

South Dakota is officially an anti-trans state

“This bill is a direct obstacle to my path to feeling comfortable in my own body,” said a 13-year-old trans girl before the same committee, while another trans boy said: “Medical care related to transition is super personal and the government can’t put its mouth on it”.

One of the two anti-trans laws was also blocked in the State of South Dakota. Although Bill SB46, which requires young students to play sports on the basis of their birth sex only, was passed, Bill HB1005 was defeated. This law prohibited students from using school bathrooms and changing rooms in relation to their gender.

While in some countries, such as Russia, there has been real state transphobia for years, in the United States of America it is gradually coming to that result, obviously under the leadership of the extreme wing of the Republican Party, which is increasingly aligned with homotransphobia.
